As a child I never wanted to go to bed, it felt like the end of the world. If you’re from Australia, like me, you may be familiar with Big Dog the big friendly life size dog that would pop up on our TV’s at 7.30pm every night telling us it was bedtime. I dreaded 7.30pm. It wasn’t until later in life that I found out my mum had actually recorded Big Dog and would play it early to get my brother and I to go to sleep earlier!
Now that I’m older I cannot get enough sleep, I genuinely need my beauty sleep and not just for appearances but so that I am genuinely a decent human being (plus I don’t drink coffee). I’ve learnt to appreciate sleep for all of it’s benefits and have a few tips to help you get the most out of your bedtime beauty routine. We spend a THIRD of our lives in bed, it’s important that time isn’t wasted.
Take your makeup off every night, I have mentioned this before in previous posts but this is the most important thing that I can recommend. I have a packet of makeup remover wipes in my bedside table and every night take my makeup off religiously as part of my routine. It is simple and effective to clear your skin so that it can breathe and restore without any barriers, it also helps extend the life of your pillow!
Sleep with a SLIP silk eye mask or pillowcase, covering your eyes while you sleep can promote a much deeper sleep as you don’t tend to wake as easily with the changes in light. A silk pillowcase or eye mask works like a subtle facial as it allows your hair and skin to glide whereas cotton can scratch and even crease your face which over time can cause premature ageing and wrinkles. 8 hours of consistent sleep each night also helps but who actually has time for that anymore?!
Wash your face when you wake up. After checking your emails, instagram, facebook and making a coffee, the FIRST thing you need to do when you wake up is wash your face! Not only do we sweat during our sleep but we also lose skin cells and so it’s important to wash it all away and start clean and fresh. I have started to use Clinique’s Pep Start range as I felt that I can sometimes lack pep in the morning (I am NOT a morning person haha), and so I thought I could get that boost from my skincare. If you don’t have time to cleanse than at least rinse with water.
I hope you’ve found my bedtime beauty tips helpful!
