15 Aug GET THE LOOK: Bronze Eye and Cream Highlight
As we slowly get closer and closer to Spring, the days are gradually getting warmer. From Monday to Friday for majority of the daylight hours I am usually indoors working. Saturday was the first day I got a glimpse of the sun and so I took advantage of it.
Not wanting to go too overboard I created this smokey bronze eye with a natural creamy highlight to take on the day. To recreate this look, see my step-by-step guide below.
I ALWAYS start with the eyes whenever doing my makeup. Let’s be honest it can get a bit messy and so in order to prevent any disasters I start with the shadow so that any excess powder that may have fall can be easily been corrected.
For this look I started by priming the eyes with Laura Mercier Hydrating Primer and then a little bit of Make Up Forever Ultra HD Foundation to ensure that the shadow sticks. Using the Urban Decay Naked Eyeshadow Palette (the OG palette), I spread Sidecar across the entire lid, I blend Smog into the crease and then for the extra pop I use Hustle (the chocolate bronze shade) in the outer corner of the eye and along the bottom lash line.
The final step for my makeup is that I put 2 layers of MAC Cosmetics Extreme Dimension Mascara on and I am good to go!
For my face I used the Laura Mercier Hydrating Primer with my fingers and spread it over my entire face and around the eyes. I leave it to dry for 30 – 60 seconds and then using a wet Beauty Blender combine one pump of YSL Touche Eclat Le Teint (in BR45 Bisque) with 2 pumps of Make Up Forever Ultra HD Foundation (in Y305) and blend it all over my face and down my neck.
Once my foundation is blended I apply my Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer under my eyes in the shape of an upside down triangle and over any blemishes (unfortunately I had a break out the night before so this was a must!) and blend with the tip of my Beauty Blender.
Once the base is looking blended and flawless I wet my Beauty Blender again and set with it Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Finishing Powder (this stuff is a God-send I will tell you now, I have always used coloured setting powders until I discovered this translucent and it has changed the way I do my makeup – a little goes a long way).
For brows I used MAC Cosmetics Brow Duo in Brunette, I trace the brow shape I am after with the darker shade and fill in the middle with the lighter shade to make a more natural look.
I wanted this look to be nice and bronzed and so I used my NARS duo palette (in Orgasm and Laguna) and using only the Laguna bronzer I contoured the hollows of my cheeks, along my jaw and across my hair line. If you really want to go all out you can put some down your nose as well (just be sure to blend, no one wants a dark line down the middle of their face). Once I was happy with the level of bronze I took the new Rimmel Good to Glow cream highlighter (in 003 Soho Glow) and using my ring finger dabbed this from my cheeks to my hairline in an L-shape, slowly building to the desired highlight I was after. Please note: this was my first ever time using a cream highlighter and wow was I impressed!
Whatever lip balm was in my handbag – sorry! But, this look would be amazing with a nude lip or brown lip if you’re a little bit bolder.
